SAMSUNG GALAXY SM-J710 HOW TO TWRP RECOVERY AND ROOT

Tired for the usal bloatware in your New Samsung J7 2016 SM-J710? Looking for more privileges to feel the freedom of the Android control? For sure you need to ROOT your device. Let’s see how to do it in a safe way.

NEEDED FILES

WARNING : Flashing a custom recovery / custom Kernel to your device will trip the Knox warranty bit on your phone. Check with your mobile provider to see if they will still cover warranty on Knox bit triggered devices. Also some procedures can Brick your phone. Check carefully your Smartphone version and, If you understand this risk, continue on.

TARGET : Samsung Galaxy J7 [6] (2016) SM-J710 F / FN / GN / MN / K – Exynos 7870 OctaCore – Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) (don’t use this Tutorial on different phone models)

FAST PROCEDURE FOR EXPERIENCED PEOPLE

  • Install TWRP from Odin with Autoreboot Unchecked
  • Than flash a mod kernel from Odin with Autoreboot Unchecked
  • From TWRP format your SD (will disable the Encryption on SD)
  • Reboot to Recovery
  • Mount Data or Sd Card and mount USB and copy the needed files on smartphone
  • Install the TWRP with EFS backup working (if you want to make backups) from TWRP
  • Reboot in the new full working Recovery
  • Make Backups (if you want)
  • Install SuperSu
  • Make a cache/Dalvik Wipe
  • Reboot to System

LONG PROCEDURE

  • Go to Settings
  • About Device
  • Tap 7 times on Model Number to enable Developer Mode

  • Back and enter in Developer Options
  • Enable OEM Unlock ( this will let you Flash from Odin) and Enable USB DEBUGGINGSamsung J7 710 Root
  • Install Driver on your PC
  • Connect the Cable and wait the system recognize your Phone
  • Power Off your Phone and Disconnect the Cable
  • Enter in Download mode with VOL “-“, HOME and POWER pressed togheter
  • Confirm with VOL “+” when asked

  • Connect the Cable
  • Open ODIN in Admin mode (Right click –> Admin mode)
  • Click AP and find “Twrp-3.0.2-1-j7xelte.img.tar
  • UNCHECK Auto-Boot on the second tab. If it will be gray (non selectable) try to modify Odin3.ini line AutoReboot=1 in AutoReboot=0 (restart Odin after the mod)

  • Start flashing and wait

  • When finished remove cable and battery

  • Reinsert Battery
  • Enter in Download mode again with VOL “-“, HOME and POWER pressed togheter (don’t let the system to start)
  • Confirm with VOL “+” when asked

  • Connect the Cable
  • Open again ODIN in Admin mode
  • Click AP and find the modified Kernel “samsung-sm-j710f-6.0.1-nodmv.tar

  • UNCHECK Auto-Boot on the second tab. If it will be gray (non selectable) try to modify Odin3.ini line AutoReboot=1 in AutoReboot=0 (restart Odin after the mod)

  • Start flashing and wait
  • When finished remove cable and battery

  • Reinsert Battery
  • Enter in Recovery mode with VOL “+”, HOME and POWER pressed togheter
  • When in TWRP Swipe to confirm the first screen
  • Go to Wipe

  • Format SD (you will lose all your data like Images and Photos). It’s neccessary to reset the Samsung Encryption (TWRP can’t manage it yet)

  • Do even a Factory Reset only if you need it
  • Reboot to Recovery

  • Now go to Mount

  • Choose DATA or MicroSD if you prefer
  • Enable USB MOUNT (PC will recognize your Smartphone like an USB Mass Storage)

  • Copy “twrp-3.0.2-3_SM-J710F.img” and “SuperSU-v2.78-201609011115.zip” in your Device

  • In TWRP go to INSTALL e search for your directory where you saved the files

  • Tap on INSTALL IMAGE in the right corner and choose “twrp-3.0.2-3_SM-J710F.img”

  • Choose RECOVERY and Swipe to Flash

  • Reboot to Recovery

  • Now you are in a fixed Recovery version that can backup EFS and MODEM. Enter in Backup

  • Backup all you want, or only SYSTEM, EFS and MODEM. Better to put them in the MicroSD

  • Now you can Install the Root and SUPER SU. Go to INSTALL

  • Search for “SuperSU-v2.78-201609011115.zip” and Flash it

  • Do a Cache / Dalvik Wipe

  • Reset to System and wait some automatic reboots

  • Check SuperSu App, Update it if necessary and enjoy your Rooted Device

Note : Someone reported Wifi problems after Rooting the device. Check the video below to fix the problem.
